Effective Date: March 12, 2025
At Window Stash, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Window Stash browser extension (the "Extension") and our website (the "Website"), how we use that information, and your rights regarding it. By using the Extension or Website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Personal Information You Provide: We do not require you to provide any personal information to use the Extension. However, if you choose to contact us or subscribe for updates (for example, providing your email address for notifications or support), we will collect the information you provide (such as your email address). This personal information will be used only for the purposes for which you provided it (e.g., to send you update notifications or respond to your support inquiry).
Usage Data: The Extension may automatically collect certain non-personal usage information to help us improve our product. This information may include, for example, anonymous counts of how often certain features are used (e.g., how many times a button is clicked or a window is stashed) and basic error reports (which might include error messages or codes). Importantly, this usage data does not contain any personally identifying information and cannot be used to identify or track you. The data is solely used in aggregate form to understand overall usage patterns and to diagnose issues.
Local Data (Browser Content): The windows and tabs that you save using Window Stash are stored locally on your own device (within your browser's storage). This means none of your saved browsing information (such as the titles or URLs of your stashed tabs) is sent to Window Stash or any server. We do not collect your browsing history or the content of your tabs through the Extension.
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
We value your privacy and do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties. In fact, due to the privacy-first design of Window Stash, we only collect data you explicitly provide to us (such as an email address for support). We will never share the information we do have with third parties except in the following limited situations:
Aside from the above, since the Extension does not send us your browsing data, we simply have nothing to share about your usage of Window Stash that could identify you.
The Window Stash Website may contain links to third-party websites or services, such as our donation platforms (e.g., Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, Ko-fi) or social media and portfolio links. If you click on those links, you will be directed to sites that are not operated by us. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content or privacy practices of any third-party sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party website you visit.
Similarly, the Extension may interact with third-party websites in the course of its functionality. For example, when generating thumbnails or icons for your saved tabs, the Extension might retrieve data (like website icons or previews) directly from the relevant websites. These requests are made directly from your browser to those external sites. Window Stash does not receive any personal data from these interactions, but be aware that your use of the Extension to fetch such external data may allow those third-party sites to receive certain information (for example, your device's IP address as part of the request). This is a standard behavior of web browsing and not unique to Window Stash.
We take security seriously and implement reasonable measures to protect the information that we do have (such as any emails you might send us or aggregate usage data on our servers) from unauthorized access or disclosure. Please note, however, that no method of transmitting or storing data is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You should also take care to protect your own devices and accounts (for example, by using strong passwords and keeping your browser and Extension updated).
Because Window Stash collects very little personal data, our data retention practices are straightforward. If you have provided us with personal information (such as an email for correspondence), we will retain that information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose it was given (for instance, to send the requested notification or to resolve your support issue). We may keep aggregated, non-identifying usage data indefinitely to help us improve the Extension, but this data cannot be tied to any individual.
Because we intentionally limit the data we collect, you generally have control over what, if any, personal information you provide to us. If you do provide personal information (like an email address), you have the right to request that we update or delete it. For example, if you subscribed for an update notification and later change your mind, you can contact us to have your email removed from our records.
You can always choose not to share information by not using certain features. For instance, you are free not to provide an email address for updates; the Extension's core functionality will still work without it. If you ever have concerns about what data might be collected, you can adjust your usage of the Extension (though, as described, the Extension by default collects virtually no personal data).
Window Stash is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the Website or send any personal information about yourself to us. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child under 13 may have provided personal information to us, please contact us so that we can remove the information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify users by posting a prominent notice on our Website or through the Extension, and we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this Policy. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically for any changes. Continued use of Window Stash after any modifications to the Privacy Policy will constitute your acknowledgment of the changes and agreement to abide by the updated Policy.
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or about how your information is handled, please contact us at [email protected]. We will be happy to address your questions.
